Hotel Management Schools

There are at least 800 different post secondary programs to train you in hotel and lodging management. Degree programs and community colleges abound, but the best place to get that training is probably in one of the hotel management schools. They are, after all specializing in training you for that industry. It's also true that such hotel management schools have very good contacts into the industry: a very useful helping hand when graduation comes and it's time to find a job. The training itself will take you through each of the important areas of the industry: front of house, (also known as front office), housekeeping and food and beverage. The same process will continue after qualification as the you early years in the industry will also be spent working for a time in each sector.

Hotel management as a career. As we all have more leisure time and so travel more, the hotel and leisure industry as a whole is booming. Job numbers are expected to continue growing. If you join one of the large chains there is the opportunity to move around the country, even to others, by switching from one establishment to another. If you'd prefer not to do this the smaller and independent operators tend to keep their staff in the same areas: so you can choose whether you want to move or not. Pay is pretty good and hotels are one of the few industries where they still prefer to promote to top mangement from the lower levels.
